The Outsiders Novel & Movie Comparison

These are the similarities for the outsiders novel and movie. Johnny killed the soc with his switchblade in both the movie and the novel. Johnny and Ponyboy ran away after Johnny killed the soc both in the movie and novel. Ponyboy got a note from Sodapop that Dally gave him when he was at the church with Johnny. Ponyboy got bit by the kid while trying to save her from when the church was burning down. Before Johnny died he said to Ponyboy “stay gold Ponyboy stay gold”.

These are some of the differences for the novel and the movie. When Cherry and Ponyboy are at the movies in the novel they talk about the sunset and in the movie they don’t they talk about it later on in the movie. In the novel Johnny is quiet in the the movie he’s not as quiet as he’s in the book. Two bit slaps Ponyboy in the novel and in the movie he hits him (not as hard as a slap). In the novel Ponyboy gets a concussion from the rumble when a soc kicked him in the head in the in the movie he doesn’t get a concussion from the rumble.

Evaluating how the directors and actors helped me visualize the novel. The actors help me visualize the novel by the way they dressed acted and talked like they were from the 50’s. The directors also helped me visualize the novel because in the movie the cars were from the 50’s. The way the actors had their hair was greased slicked backed and that’s the same way as described in the novel. A part of the movie that didn’t help me visualize the novel was the ending in the movie it didn’t show the full ending of the novel.
