Book Talk/Book Blog:Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers

This book is about Robin “birdy” Perry he’s from Harlem and is a new army recruit but yet doesn’t know why he joined the army. He is in the Civilian Affairs Battalion they help secure the country of Iraq. When he is first deployed in Iraq he meets a guy named Jonesy they talked about their lives outside of the war back in the U.S. Jonesy asks Birdy if he can trust him, Birdy says yes then Jonesy says “Ok becuase we need to have each other’s back”.In a town called An Nasiriyah, Birdy and some soldiers find a weapon called an RGB launcher      (a tool to launch a grenade) inside a family's home. It smelled like it was fired recently, so the soldiers were ordered to take the boy from his home outside and shoot him if he runs. Outside, a sniper shot at them, the boy starts running, and they kill him. The image of the boy getting shot messed with Birdy but over time he got over it. Birdy, Jonesy and the rest of there squad played soccer with the kids that they met when they were asking a women some question. They helped the kids get a soccer goal get set up so they could play. Birdy and Jonesy get into a conflict with Iraq soldiers while trying to help kids...?
